January '00 Newsletter

Hello?!? Anybody there?!? Did everyone survive the Y2K?? Hope you had a wonderful holiday and a fun and uneventful New Years. This newsletter is being written the day before Christmas. Most of you know that the club has the New Millenium Ride planned for Pulaski, New York so we can get together and celebrate the incoming of the next 100 years with some snowmobile riding. I was getting a little nervous, but I think we will be in for some good riding. The last I heard, this morning, Pulaski was shutdown because of the dumping of four foot of snow on them. FOUR FOOT as in 48 inches. WOW!! I do feel sorry for the residents of Pulaski that have their plans spoiled for any Christmas celebrations because of the snow, but WOW!!!!

One last word on the destruction of my truck by some fiend. For those of you who have not been following this riveting story, my truck was severely vandalized when someone removed the license plate on the front of it (yellow plate; says "Ski Doo" in red letters) and put it on backwards. I went to the auto parts store the other day and was discussing this problem with the gentlemen there. They put me onto a product called ‘Anti-Theft License Plate Fasteners’. I feel much safer now when I drive my truck out in public. Thanks heavens for modern technology!

Before I forget, I am supposed to mention a couple of things in this newsletter. The writer of the newsletter was whining and complaining at the last club meeting about all the work he does getting the newsletter out each month. Everyone gave him a pity party and he felt better. One suggestion to come out of that was many of you might like to have the newsletter by email. You would not get the fancy advertising pages, but the advertisers would be listed. Therefore, anybody who would like to receive the newsletter by email, send me a note by email to dsmouse@epix.net. This will save the club the expense of sending you pieces of trees with writing on them. You will also receive your newsletter several days earlier.

Next thing I am supposed to bring up is our Club Voice Mailbox. For those of you who have called it, you probably know it is slightly behind – like six months worth. We are looking for someone to take that over and keep it up to date. You can make changes from any phone in the United States as long as you know the password. If anyone is interested, contact one of the officers. DON’T leave a message on the voice mailbox. Could take us a while to get around to listening to it.

Next, in our ‘tug at your heart strings’ section, you can be proud of your club. If you did not catch the article in the Daily Review, your club was involved in donating a check for $500 to Tony DeMarco to help offset the expenses of his son Chris’s ailment. He has leukemia and is going to have a bone marrow transplant. Chris has been in the hospital for several months and is looking at being in there for several more. Chris had just turned 13 years of age when he found out he was ill. The DeMarco’s live in our area and the hospital they need to be at is in Rochester, New York. Not exactly an every day commute. The money came from the PSSA’s Snow Angels for Children fund. PSSA is the Pennsylvania State Snowmobile Association. Every year a raffle is held statewide to earn money for the fund. Then on recommendations by local PSSA member snowmobile clubs (that would be us), the money is dispersed to needy children. Mark Moody, president of our club, presented the check to Tony and I was privileged to be there to watch the presentation. Thanks to the Daily Review for their nice article. If anyone knows of an unfortunate young person who has some type of misfortune, bring it the attention of one of the officers to see if this person qualifies. The worst answer we can get is no.

Let’s talk raffle tickets as in Arctic Cat Z370. What did you do with the ones in your newsletter last month? Sell them? Buy them? Leave them lay on the counter? Whichever you did, please get them sent back into our treasurer, Patty Weaver at RD 2 Box 256, Wysox, PA 18854 real soon. We want to make sure we have enough tickets to sell at the Winterfest again this year. I think we are behind last year’s pace on sales. So those of you who have tickets to sell, it’s time to start cracking the whip! Anybody need more tickets to sell? See Ron Weaver at Rolling Acres or Dennis Smouse, wherever he might be. As voted on a couple of meetings ago, all the proceeds from the ticket sales go into a fund to be used to purchase larger assets for the club. Things that were mentioned were a rescue sled or groomer. It will take several years of saving to get a groomer. That’s why we felt we had to start sooner rather than later.

No club events again this past month. January things should start to pick up. Next on our list of excitement is the first ride of the season on January 15th. As you can see, we are still looking for a chairperson. Don’t be shy, stick that hand in the air. Check out the balance of the scheduled club events:

Not a lot to update on trails. Franklin Township put the final wrappings on the "Snowmobile Roads Ordinance". That means it was voted on, approved and signed by the township supervisors. All paperwork needed is made out and ready to send into the DCNR to get the signs. Waiting for the final, signed version of the ordinance to come back from the lawyers. Next we are starting to look into some trails and connecting them up in Sullivan County. Aaron Norton is spear heading this. Sullivan County has several pockets of trails but no formal network of connecting them up. There is spectacular country in Sullivan County and would be nice to access some of it from our own riding system.

Check out another new advertiser this month. Not only this month but he has signed up for next year also. Welcome Rocky’s Bicycle Shop located outside of Monroeton going west on route 414. Rocky has recently installed one of those skate boarding/bicycle wooden tracks like you see on ESPN2 a lot. He was telling me as soon as there is snow on it he would like to see several snowmobiles show up and do some stunts on it like the skate boarders do. Relax Rocky, I’m only kidding. TEETER, I said I was KIDDING, leave the sled in the garage! Rocky’s is where I purchased one of those chain locks to secure my sled at night when I travel to those foreign places. Stop in and welcome Rocky as our newest supporter when you go by. As always, support those who support us in our endeavors as a snowmobile club.

A real nice turn out of members at last month’s meeting. Nice to see so many of you again. For those of you who have never had the opportunity to attend, meetings are always the second Wednesday of the month, every month of the year. Meetings are held at Steward’s Family Restaurant located on the Golden Mile in Wysox, PA right off rte 6. We meet in Doug’s back room starting at 7:00 pm. If you do the math that makes the next meeting January 12, 2000. Come on out and join the fun. We are always looking for new and fun ideas.
